NY Jewish Summer Camp’s no “body talk” guideline builds on Jewish teachings
Eden Village Camp eliminates talk about appearance to foster deeper connections
Over the summer, campers take a break from commenting on their own or others’ appearance or clothes, be it negative, neutral or positive – with common-sense caveats for health and safety issues, and for important conversations about body image. This guideline is a building block of Eden Village’s culture of kindness, which encourages more meaningful relationships and conversations that celebrate the individual.
“Judaism teaches us to connect to the root source of things, and each other,” says Pesach Stadlin, Eden Village Camp’s Jewish studies director.
